Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Guiding You On the Path of Healing

Lymphatic massage, also known as manual lymphatic  drainage (MLD), is a recognized technique for reducing swelling. Manual lympahtic drainage is also known as a medical massage for decongestive therapy. This therapy can benefit individuals recovering from various conditions such as post-mastectomy, lipedema lymphedema, hip and knee surgeries, lupus, Lyme disease, arthritis, postpartum recovery, cosmetic surgeries requiring lymphatic detox, and even during pregnancy. By enhancing the movement of stagnant fluid and promoting toxin elimination, lymphatic detoxification therapy helps restore optimal health boost immunity.

Cosmetic surgeons are increasingly acknowledging the advantages of MLD for post-operative patients, particularly after lipuction, as these procedures disrupt lymphatic flow and lead to increased swelling. It is crucial to begin MLD the day after surgery and continue for 3-6 months, complemented by wearing compression Faja garments for 6 months to a year to manage fluid retention. As pain, swelling, and excess fluid diminish, the frequency of treatments can be reduced.

Lymphatic massage effectively decreases swelling, alleviates pain, and facilitates the reabsorption of fluid trapped beneath the skin. Unlike deep tissue massage, lymphatic massage involves a gentler touch resembling a nudging motion. When seeking lymphatic massage or MLD, the therapist's credentials; a certified lymphatic therapist (CLT) has completed a rigorous -hour training course.

Lymphatic drainage can be performed manually or mechanically, so it's essential to consult your therapist to determine the best option for you. Various medical modalities can also enhance lymphatic flow and should be discussed during your wellness visit, as they may not be suitable for everyone. Remember, each individual's healing journey is unique, and treatments should be customized to meet your specific needs. Lymphatic Express is dedicated to supporting your process for optimal recovery and care.

The Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system serves three primary functions:

1. It regulates fluid between the blood and tissues, known as fluid homeostasis.

2. It plays a crucial in the immune system, helping to protect the body against bacteria and other foreign invaders.

3. It aids in the absorption of fats and fat-soluble nutrients in the digestive system through specialized small vessels called lacteals, which capture these substances from the gut. Lymphatic nodes can be damaged by trauma, radiation, or surgery which may necessitate decongestive therapy to support the movement of lymph fluids.

Radiofrequency Decongestive Therapy

Radiofrequency massage can assist in reducing cellulite and enhancing lymphatic flow.

This treatment utilizes low-level ultrasonic waves that create compression and expansion impulses in a circular motion. This movement generates shock wave patterns that promote the emulsification and removal of fat tissues, a process known ascavitation," which may contribute to body sculpting and skin tightening. The emulsified fat transforms into a liquid that can be efficiently eliminated from the body through the lymphatic and urinary systems.

Vacuum Therapy

Vacuum lymph detox is a process that may enhance lymphatic flow through vacuum percussion, while cupping helps to open rather than close lymphatic vessels. This technique promotes local and systemic lymph movement, allowing lymph to be directed to specific areas for increased plumpness or transported to regional lymph nodes, where it can be filtered by the body through the kidneys.

EMS Massage therapy

EMS utilizes a stimulation cycle that induces muscle contractions and relaxations to reduce inflammation, muscle growth, and enhance healing by strengthening muscles. It is commonly employed in the rehabilitation of muscle injuries, preventing muscular atrophy due to inactivity, and toning muscles, potentially reducing the appearance of fat. As a type of electrical impulse therapy, EMS stimulates muscles by mimicking signals from the central nervous system, which boosts lymphatic flow. It is important to note that EMS is not intended for pain management and should not be mistaken for TENS.
