What Is Fibrosis?

That Tight, Hard, Rippling Feeling After Surgery Fibrosis is an excessive buildup of collagen-based scar tissue after surgical injury, liposuction, tummy tuck, BBL, or radiation. If your skin feels very tight when stretched, like it's ripping or tearing, or you feel hard lumps, rope-like bands, or uneven rippling under the skin - that's fibrosis. It's aggressive.

If not treated early with proper rehab protocols, it can become permanent and limit mobility.

At Lymphatic Express, fibrosis treatment is not a regular massage. It's a medical rehab protocol performed by our licensed team (CLT, CMA, APRN) using a cutting-edge FDA-approved swelling machine combined with hands-on scar tissue management.

Our Fibrosis Protocol Includes:

  • Assessment of Fibrosis Stage: We grade fibrosis (Stage 1 soft to Stage 3 hard/attached) and map affected areas.

  • Manual Scar Tissue Management: Gentle to firm alternating pressure to soften adhesions without re-injuring tissue.

    • Noel, Whitney, and Krystal specialize in this.

  • FDA-Approved Swelling & Fibrosis Machine: Helps break down collagen buildup and improve circulation to fibrotic areas.

  • Ultrasound & Cavitation: When needed, to target deeper fibrotic nodules.

  • Home Program: Compression guidance, stretching, and self-MLD to prevent re-hardening.

When Should You Start?

Ideally within 2-3 weeks post-op, before tissue hardens completely. But we treat clients at 6 weeks, 3 months, even 6 months  even 2 years post-op with improvement - it just takes more sessions. Don't massage fibrosis aggressively at home or let an untrained spa do deep tissue. You can make it worse and increase inflammation. What to Expect: Sessions: 90 min, typically 2x week for 3-4 weeks for moderate fibrosis Sensation: Tightness decreases, skin becomes more pliable, lumps soften gradually Not instant: Fibrosis took weeks to form, takes weeks to remodel. Consistency matters. Individual results vary. We also coordinate with your surgeon if fibrosis needs medical evaluation.
