What Is a Seroma?

Fluid Buildup Under Skin After Surgery A seroma is a pocket of clear fluid that collects under the skin after liposuction, tummy tuck, BBL, or other surgery where tissue has been removed or disrupted. You may notice a soft, swollen bulge that feels like a water balloon, sometimes sloshing, with increasing swelling and discomfort. Left untreated, seromas can increase infection risk, delay healing, and lead to more fibrosis and scar tissue.

At Lymphatic Express, seroma drainage (fluid aspiration) is performed by our licensed healthcare team using sterile techniques and a small needle to extract fluid from the targeted area. This is a medical procedure - not offered at regular massage spas. We provide care for local and out-of-town surgery patients.

When to Book

If you have a soft, fluid-filled swelling that is getting larger, painful, or not improving with MLD and compression, call same-day. Do not try to drain it yourself. Signs you may have a seroma: Localized swelling that is soft and fluctuant, not hard like fibrosis; fluid wave when tapped; increasing discomfort; swelling that returns quickly after MLD.

Assessment of area, medical history, surgical clearance if needed

Sterile prep, needle aspiration of fluid - Compression guidance post-procedure

Follow-up MLD scheduled to prevent re-accumulation

Seroma fluid removal, improved contour. Individual results vary.  We also provide drain removal and suture removal in the same visit if needed.
